Been experimenting with lots of graphics stuff lately- graphics is pretty bad in Vulture and it needs to improve. So right now I am learning 3d modeling and texturing and trying to strecth my miserable skills to make something worth showing. trying to create interesting style, I have come to conclusion, that cel shading is pretty much only option. Well, not 100% cel shading, but bleak textures and big outlines, like Borderlands, make picture much better and effective. Here is screenshot to show what’s what:

English version incoming

Translated all phrases to English (I hope),  repaired some glitches that needed to be repaired, like better arrow and showing what type of weapon is equipped and here it is: the English version. Download it on mediafire. It’s free but I don’t say it is production ready, mainly because of poor models and textures (I am no 3d artist and grabbed all that is available in internet for free, thanks to kind people at shercg.com) and pretty bad usability. But it’s playable and I am having much fun, driving and blasting these stupid machines.

Time to prepare english version

Latvian game making contest has come to final phase- voting and if you like, you can vote for my game (page only in latvian). If you are impatient and want to see what all all is about you can download Latvian version here, but English version will come in few days time, most likely next Monday. Vulture- pirmās daļas beigas

Beidzot tas datums, līdz kuram varēja izstrādāt spēli konkursam “Beidz runāt sāc darīt” ir pienācis un pēc vairākām negulētām naktīm kaut kas līdzīgs spēlei ir uztapis.

Salīdzinājumā testēšanas daļai iesniegto spēli ir mainījies gandrīz viss- no lēnas braukāšanas un resursu vākšanas tā ir parvērtusies par braukšanu lielā ātrumā un šaudīšanos ar raķetēm (un automātu). Sižets ir pazudis, jo nevienam jau to nevajadzēja (šņuk). Palikuši laikam ir tikai vecie modeļi un pretinieki.

Tā kā spēle nav uztaisīta vienkārši saprotama (mana vaina, zinu), tad neliels apstāsts par kontrolēm un kā darboties.

Spēlē ir uzdevumi, kuri tiek izvadīti ar ekrāna paziņojumiem. Lai orientētos, kur jābrauc, spēlētājam labajā apakšējā pusē ir bultiņa, kas norāda uz kuru pusi jābrauc.

Kontroles:

  • WASD -kustamies
  • Space- rocene
  • tēmējam ar peli (lāzertēmeklis norāda kur trāpīs)
  • šauj ar peles kreiso pogu
  • 1- machine gun
  • 2- rockets

Munīcija nav limitēta

Reku neliels video ar spēles procesu (video nav skaņas, lai gan spēlē tā ir)

little update

New driving controller was bugged after all and took me additional two days to fix it. On plus side, weapons went nice and now I have hast moving vehicle, armed with machine gun and rocket launcher. Its fun just to drive on planet surface, shooting rockets, especially if I created it by myself. Now need to add enemies and tweak them for new behavior.

What is Vulture?

Vulture is computer game, to be more specific- scifi drive ‘n’ gun.  You play as scavenger, recruited to scavenge scrap metals from pretty recent war site, but there are still mines and robots, that are left intact and hostile. You can think of it as of Borderlands (not so good, of couse).

I have plans to develop it into space exploration RPG like Star control 2(plus same trading stuff).  It is currently in development. Right now it is only in latvian (well, half texts are english anyway), cause I am participating in local games competition, but it will soon and and translating all texts will be first priority.

spēles vadīšanas uzlabošana

Visu nedēļas sākumu ņēmos ar to, ka mēģināju uztaisīt labāku vadāmību galvenajam varonim. Liekas, ka nu gandrīz tas ir izdevies, tikai tagad laikam nāksies pārtaisīt visus pretiniekus.

Kas ir paredzēts izdarīt:

  • Lāzers (laikam) paliek par vienkāršu mining laser, ko var laist visu laiku, bet kas dara minimālu damage
  • Pirmais ierocis būs automāts (šauj ātri, bet mazs damage)
  • otrais būs raķetes (tālu šauj, bet ilgi pārlādējas)
  • braukšana notiks racing game stilā
  • ir repair shops
  • spēlētājam ir noteikts dzīvību skaits, ja spēlētājs tiek pieviekts, viņš atdzimst pēc brīža (līdzīgi kā arcādēs)
  • pēdējais boss būs tanks, kas atradīsies planētas vidū uz sabrukuša battleship
  • laser trap ar mīklu būs pirms tam
  • iespējams, ka būs kaut kādas upgrades, taču par to vēl agri runāt
